Clinical study 3: Review of Organic Lavender oil
The aim of this study was to review the therapeutic benefits of Organic Lavender oil and the following species were studied
- Lavandula angustifolia
- Lavandula latifolia
- Lavandula stoechas
The therapeutic properties of Organic Lavender oils
Organic Lavender oil therapeutic properties are listed below:
- Antibacterial
- Antifungal
- Carminative
- Smooth muscle
- Relaxing
- Sedative
- Ant depressive
and effective for burns and insect bit
Common use of Organic Lavender oil:
We all have grown up with the scent of Organic lavender oil in our homes and this essential oil continues to be as popular in today’s society as it has been in the past centuries. Organic Lavender oil was one of the ancient oil used in ancient Romans and Greeks.
Common extraction of Organic Lavender oil:
The common extraction method of Organic Lavender oil is through steam distillation (head or both head and foliage of the flowers)
Commercial use of Organic Lavender oil:
The commercial use of Organic Lavender oil in today’s age is through the use of Organic aromatherapy or incorporated into Organic soaps and other Organic products as a pleasant fragrance or as an antimicrobial agent. There is an increase of usage of Organic Lavender in massage oils, Alternative medicine and many benefits are claimed for use in this way.
The four categories of Organic Lavender oils:
Group 1: Lavandula latifolia (Origin Mediterranean) and it’s also refereed as a grass Organic Lavender oil
Group 2: Lavandula angustifolia (formally known as a Lavandula officinalis, or Lavandula vera) also known as English Organic Lavender
Group 3: Lavandula stoechas (also known as the French Organic lavender)
Group 4: Lavandula x intermedia (is the sterile cross between L. latifolia and L. angustifolia)
Organic Lavender oil & psychological affect:
Aromatherapy is thought to be therapeutically effective due to both the psychological effect of the odour and the physiological effects of the inhaled volatile compounds, Organic lavender oil odour is associated with positive emotional states.Individuals receiving Organic lavender oil (10%) odour for 3 min were significantly more relaxed, had decreased anxiety scores, better moods.
In another study, the use of aromatherapy Organic lavender oil increased the speed and accuracy of mathematical calculation. Other individuals who received 10 to 15 min hand-massage with a mix of three oils, including Organic lavender oil, they had a significant improvement in all areas measured (feelings of well-being, increased alertness, decreased aggression and anxiety and improved sleeping patterns).
Organic Lavender oil & during labour
Organic Lavender oil has also found several uses in midwifery where it can be added to bath water to relieve pain and discomfort following labour. The use of Organic Lavender oil is also currently used in many delivery rooms for its general calming action ( to relieve muscle tension, or to the abdomen, to assist placental expulsion).
Organic Lavender oil & Antimicrobial effect:
Organic Lavender oil has been found to be active against many microbial strains, It has also been suggested that essential oils, including Organic lavender oil useful in treating bacterial infections that are
resistant to antibiotics.

Organic Lavender oil (Aromatherapy) and Antifungal actives:
In a clinical trial, Organic Lavender roil (Aromatherapy) shown to inhibit the mycelial growth of Aspergillus fumigates, however the effect only lasted until the aroma was diffused in the room. The inhibition of the mycelia was as equivalent as Organic Tea Tree oil.

Organic Lavender oil & your work place:
The aim of this study was to examine the use of Organic lavender oil in hospital wards. The uses of Organic essential oil in burners (Aromatherapy) were evaluated as a positive or neutral on their working environment. The experiment was conducted over a period of three months and was rated by the hospital staff.

The use of Organic Lavender oil and its impact on the nervous system, the aroma of the Organic Lavender oil was used in two burners for the 3-month
Result of Organic Lavender oil (Aroma therapy) in Hospital wards:
Result 1: 88% of the respondents (hospital staff) thought the use of Organic Lavender oil in burners believed had improved the environment.
Result 2: 85% of respondents (Hospital staff) believed that the use of Organic Lavender oil had affected the working environment positively.
Their findings: the use of Organic Lavender oil when evaluated by the hospital staff, reviled and overall positive emotional status and rated the overall working condition positively.
