Clinical study 1:
The combination of Alternative therapy with conventional treatment on childoohd eczema suffers
Childhood atopic eczema is an increasingly common condition in young children and can be very irritating in children, not only affecting them, but also their families. Organic essential oils (aromatherapy) and normal medical treatment are used to help alleviate children atopic eczema.
In recent studies indicated that the number of children suffering from atopic eczema has increased over the past 30 years, especially children between the ages of 2 – 5 years.
Symptoms of atopic eczema in children:
Children that suffer from eczema have the following symptoms
- Suffer pain
- disfigurement from the dermatitis
- lack of sleep ( due to skin irritation)
Did you know?
- Childhood eczema has been called ‘the disease of the advantaged. Only 4% of children born to unemployed fathers suffer from the disorder compared with 6.7% in the group born to employed fathers
- Atopic eczema is not a recognized condition in the Third World countries, where the young child is close to the mother’s body
Traditional treatment & Alternative therapy (aromatherapy oils):
Due to the lack of success with conventional therapy, alternative therapy (aromatherapy) has been used in some cases of childhood eczema. Organic Tea tree oil has been shown to benefit some eczema conditions in a randomised clinical trial. In a clinical trail the use of alternative therapy (Aromatherapy) & Massage oil (Organic essential oils) reduced the stress in children (as eczema is often associated with stress). The use of Organic Massage essential oils & aromatherapy oils to treat children with eczema:
A mixture of Organic essential oil 1:1:1, Organic frankincense essential oil, Organic sweet marjoram essential oil and Organic Chamomile German Blue essential oil where used in a form of Massage therapy & Bath treatment.
Massage therapy (Organic essential oils):
Massage therapy (Organic essential oils) the mixtures of Organic essential oils were diluted in Organic almond oil to give a 2% solution for massage. On weekly bases, massage therapist would use the mixture of Organic Massage oil to massage each child for 30 min.
Bath (Organic essential oil):
Bath (Organic essential oil) each child was bathed every day with the addition of 6 drops of the same essential oil mix (Organic frankincense essential oil, Organic sweet marjoram essential oil and Organic Chamomile German Blue essential oil) in a water bath.
Result:
During the 8 weeks of Clinical trial there was a significant reduction in the night-time disturbance score after both treatments (Organic massage oils & Organic bath oils), compared with the pre-treatment scores. The day-time irritation scores were significantly decreased after both treatments (Organic massage oils &Organic bath oils), compared with the pre treatment scores. The rating of kids eczema conditions were conducted by GP’s an Aromatherapist and the mothers.
The use of conventional therapy and alternative therapy has significantly improved children eczema condition within the first week. The fact that each child had previously failed to respond to conventional treatment alone, suggests that complementary therapy improved the outcome of conventional treatment.
